24 x 17cm, ink, pencil and collaged green card. One of the very earliest of Abramovic works extant this was created at a time when she was a student in Krsto Hegedusic’s art class (1971 – 1973). Abramovic at this time was creating art works that were themed upon the use of abstractions of clouds (her earliest solo show was based on that theme) and this joint work is a remarkably, ultra-rare vintage item from that period given as a new year gift to Vladimir Malekovic to whom the work is dedicated and who owned the work until 2012.
Slight handling creases at corner else VG+. To the best of our knowledge this is the earliest artwork available by the artist in private hands.
Provenance: Vladimir Maleković collection, then Drazen Dabic since 2012. Authenticated by both Richard Demarco who first brought Abramovic to the UK and helped her leave Belgrade and also by Marina Abramovic herself who wrote to me in an email having been shown the work: “This is a Happy New Year card I made using collage.“ and “My legacy is definitely my biggest challenge ever and I am happy to embrace it (this work).”
