THE IDENTICAL LUNCH WITH SHIGEKO KUBOTA. 1969. PRINTER’S / ARTIST’S PROOF.

55 x 65 cm canvas with a b/w silkscreen of a  photographic image of Shigeko Kubota  taken by Alison Knowles during a performance where Knowles fed a number of different Fluxus artists the same meal in a prepared space. This was a unique artist’s / printer’s proof which has graphite additions by Knowles – the text under the photo is  “The Identical lunch with Shigeko Kubota” in pencil and Alison has signed the work in ink on the right.

On the far side vertically a text reads “151/2 x 19 1/4 inches” and “39.5 x 49cm”.

The canvas is a slightly grubby and needs some cleaning and there is a surface crack/crease on the bottom right (see photograph). The image of the print is slightly off the horizontal and it was an experimental print ie a printers/artist’s proof by Knowles to decide on placement and size. The canvas required to be placed on a stretcher as intended by Knowles. Priced to reflect condition.
