Unoriginal Sins is an established venture trading in the field of the contemporary and modern avant garde movements from 1900 to the present day. We have a vast inventory of books, documents, artworks, ephemera, object multiples, LPs and other digital media as well as representing major collections from significant artists.

We trade almost entirely online - we purchase new material all the time and offer regular clients email lists (which you can sign up to here) of new arrivals. Soon after the distribution of those lists, new items are placed online so it is worth returning regularly to this site to see what new things are for sale.

It may be possible to visit in person and see our inventory but that is by appointment only - please email us. We can supply references for new clients should that be required.

We are always looking for new material to add to our stocks - we have a desiderata here but we are interested in all material that is similar to our core interests. Do get in touch.

AVANT GARDE ART WHAT’S GOING UP IN THE 80S. 1980.

Edinburgh: Demarco Gallery, 1980 32 x 44cm, b/w poster promoting Joseph Beuys Beuys' FIU talk/performance event during the 1980 Edinburgh International Arts Festival. The topics for discussion were political and environmental - with the, then, emotive battle to stop Torness Nuclear Power Station being a major theme as was the battle to release Jimmy Boyle from prison - the former murder's life-changing experience of becoming an artist led to Beuys championing Boyle's release from the Barlinnie Special Unit (where an experiment in penal reform had been spectacularly effective much to the chagrin of the right wing government who did not want such experiments to be proved worthwhile).  This poster  is not found in the Prestel Beuys Posters catalogue raisonne and is very scarce. VG+.

THE LUCAS AEROSPACE WORKERS NEW PUBLIC TRANSPORT. 1980.

Edinburgh: Demarco Gallery, 1980 44 x 32cm, b/w political poster designed and conceived by Joseph Beuys who used the print to promote the alternative economic strategy which was being promoted by the democratic left in Britain as an alternative to Thatcherism. In 1976 the Lucas Aerospace Combine Shop Stewards Committee produced an Alternative Corporate Plan for Lucas Aerospace that advocated the production of social useful products including ideas in public transport that were more green than existing products (eg a road rail vehicle). This poster issued in Edinburgh by Demarco and Beuys during the 1980 Edinburgh International Festival is not found in the Prestel Beuys Posters catalogue raisonne and is very scarce. VG+.

LECTURE CAROLINE TISDALL. SUBJECT: JOSEPH BEUYS. 1980.

Edinburgh, n.p. (Demarco?), n.d. (1980) 48 x 25.5cm, black and orange announcement poster with a collage/drawing of Beuys and Bugs Bunny by an unknown hand for a talk by Tisdall on Beuys - the word “TODAY” written across it as this was an used wall poster. Corners have tears in them due  to being removed from a wall where pins were holding the poster. Extremely rare - NOT found in Prestel.

BEUYS IS HERE. 1980.

Edinburgh: Demarco Gallery, 1980 42 x 38cm, black on white typographic poster used outside of the venue for Beuys' dialogues with the public under the title : "Avant Garde Art: What’s Going Up in the 80’s". There is a paper loss bottom left caused by the poster being removed from the wall in the past but this is a very rare Beuys poster. Prestel Beuys Posters nr 159.

STRIPES FROM THE HOUSE OF THE SHAMAN. 1980.

London: Antony D'Offay, 1980 68 × 44cm, full colour offset exhibition poster for a solo show of works by Beuys which is illustrated with Warhol's portrait of the Fluxus and arte povera artist. This is a very desirable and sought after poster because of the colourful nature of the reproduced portrait - sadly this example is heavily creased along the bottom of the poster - see the photograph - where the gallery details are found. We have priced this far less than recent auction record prices have shown as a result.

THREE POTS ACTION. 1980.

Edinburgh/NYC: Demarco Gallery, 1980 76.6 x 91.7cm, offset print showing images taken by Richard Demarco (all polarised) of the Three Pots Actionthat took place in Edinburgh during the 1980 International Festival Prestel posters nr 161.  Slight handling creases. Very scarce as not many were printed.
