A SIGNIFICANT & EXTENSIVE COLLECTION OF ANNOUNCEMENT CARDS, LEAFLETS & POSTCARDS BY JOSEPH BEUYS. 1965 – 1986.

Here we offer an extensive and significant collection of over 360 announcement cards, invite cards, publicity cards, announcement leaflets and other postcards by Joseph Beuys.

The collection currently consists of 324 cards and documents from July 1964 to artist’s unexpected death in January 1986 and a number of additional posthumous cards. The vast majority of these cards are directly related to solo exhibitions – of which Beuys had around 180 during his life time – hence this is a large proportion of all the Beuys invitation cards issued.

Napoli: Lucio Amelio, 1980/1981
20.5 x 14.5cm, printed manilla envelope content of twelve artist designed postcards by Cragg, Longobardi, Paladino, Tatfiore and Salle alongside three postcards by Beuys. Beuys' contributions are two b/w images of the installation Terremoto in Palazzo (1981) and a drawing from the same work - the card of which is signed in red felt tipped pen by Beuys. All VG+ in a printed envelope which has been signed and stamped by Beuys. Scarce. Not in Schellmann.

15 x 10.5cm, 4pp announcement for a portfolio of four lithographs by Beuys in "Brauntone" issued in a limited edition of only 150 examples. One of the works of a seal reproduced on the front in b/w. Serrated subscription/reply card still attached. VG+.

15 x 10.5cm, 2pp. Original postcard edition by Beuys issued as part of the "Originalgrafik - Series D" in 1981 but later overwritten by Klaus Staeck in 1997 (it is dated by hand as 9.9.97)with a note about copies of the Honeypumpe work being available for 20DM and with a blue rubber stamp impression with Edition Staecks' address. Signed by Staeck in black ink.

Koln: Koenig, n.d. (1981) 15 x 10.5cm, 2pp commercial postcard showing Beuys in front of a mammoth skeleton and the title text in the artist's facsimile hand. Verso postcard design but also a handwritten note from an unknown hand to Cateria Gualco sent from Documenta 8 (1987). Stamoped and franked else VG.

Munchen: Schellmann & Kluser, 1981 15 x 21cm, 2pp photo-announcement card with a image of an untitled work on the front and verso gallery details. VG+ - this card is signed on the front in red ink by Beuys - however because of the high shine of the card the signature is a little hard to see.

15 x 10.5cm, 2pp announcement card with a reproduction of the cover of the artist's book by Beuys published by Yvon Lambert on the front. Verso minimal details and a rubber stamp impression "Joseph Beuys/10 Oct 81/Yvon Lambert, Paris". A mailed example that shows some franking ink marks on the front due to the postal experience else VG+.

15 x 10.5cm, 2pp black on cream thin card. Announcement for an exhibition and also the book of the same title by Beuys and Dirk Rochtus and with photographs by Ute Klophaus. Only 40 signed copies were released. VG+.

10.5 x 17.2cm, 4pp announcement card which has a reproduction of a drawing of a woman inside - all of the drawings exhibition were of women. VG+.

RHINE WATER POLUTED (sic). 1981.

Köln: Galerie Holtmann, 1981 10.4 x 14.8cm, 2pp announcement card for the title edition released in only 24 examples after the Rhein-Aktion by Nicolas Uriburu and Beuys. An image of the multiple bottle of poisoned water is reproduced on the front in lime green and black and verso a subscription form. VG+.

8 KUNSTLER. 1981.

Bonn/Koln: Galerie Klein/Galerie Ha. Jo. Muller, 1981 15 x 10.5cm, 4pp typographic announcement card for a show of eight artists which include Beuys amongst others. The show was split between two galleries. Internally there is advance notice of Arnulf Rainer, SIgmar Polke and Gunter Tuzina exhibitions. VG+.

JOSEPH BEUYS. MULTIPLAR 1969 – 1981. 1981. ANNOUNCEMENT WITH ADDED FAT.

Lund: Galleriet, 1981 21×14.8cm, 4pp. Exhibition invitation / multiple consisting of a piece of felt-like cardboard folded in half. On the first page there is the name “Joseph Beuys” blind-stamped which has been smeared with fat. Internally there is a b/w image of Beuys and the exhibition details. Rare.
