A TERRE ET LES REVERIES DU REPOS. (WITH TIPPED IN ALS)

£750.00

Paris: Corti, 1948

18.5 x 12cm. 338pp. Original wrappers. First edition (preceded by only 30 large paper copies) of this crucial phenomenological excursion by the gifted psychoanalyst thinker cum literary theoretician.

Bachelard’s exquisitely personal text analyses are in the reading associative alchemical evocations of the word as outwardly projected and simultaneously internalised animate signifier within any given territory (“a reverie is inseparable from the language in which it is dreamed”, par example).

This copy with a superb 2pp. autographed letter from the author to the modernist poet Noel Bureau, in response to the latter having sent Bachelard a series of poems, which may be of interest thematically to his ongoing work, and which (in his always exacting style) Bachelard discusses indirectly, among other topics.

This ALS has been carefully tipped onto the free-flyleaf of the volume, and neatly unfolds for examination. The volume itself exhibits some minor wear to wrappers, else is in very good estate.

Substantial articles of correspondence from Bachelard do not often appear on the market. Unique thus.
