£375.00

Paris. L’Union des Artistes Russes a Paris, 1924

65 x 24cm. The published double-sided broadside programme for one of a series of annual Russian avant garde balls. This copy printed black on pink and contains one costume design by Gontcharova (the final garb intended to be made out of paper) and a vignette by Barth of Apollo (to whom the ball was consecrated). Artists credited for the decoration within the hall include Braque, Burliuk, Chagall, Delaunay, Dufy, Foujita, Galanis, Gontcharova, Gris, Leger, Larionov, Laurencin, Matisse, Man Ray, Marinetti, Mayakovski, Picasso, Picabia and Zadkine.

The programme notes that Tzara was to contribute a “spectacle sur l’Echeelle” with 2 actresses, one actor and the author. Foukita offers a dance. Part of a short musical score by Tailleferre is also reproduced. The event was a massive undertaking and the general public were invited.

One of an annual series of such avante garde spectaculars. Good condition despite some creasing and some short tears around the fold. Very scarce fragile item.
