Six separate numbers – uniformly 30 x 21cm, pagination: 56, 56, 60, 62, 64pp respectively plus printed outer wrappers. A short but early run of issues – Block magazine was founded in 1979 and ran for eleven years. Edited by Jon Bird, Barry Curtis, Melinda Mash, Tim Putnam, George Robertson and Lisa Tickner, Block “attempted to address the problem of the social, economic and ideological dimensions of the arts in society, and offered a challenge to a conventional understanding of art history” Contributions from or about many important conceptual and other artists including Conrad Atkinson, Terry Atkinson, Allen Jones, John Berger, Susan Hiller, Mary Kelly, Art & Language amongst others. Issues 3 – 6 have an original contribution by Glen Baxter, Joanne Gooding, Conrad Atkinson and Bouthe on the back page. All in very good condition apart from Nr 6 which has rusted staples which has caused the top part of the wrappers to be loOse (the bottom staple is held however). Scarce.
