CATALYST NR 1 – 3. 1970.

£95.00

London: Art Information Registry (Jos Tilson), 1970
Three separate numbers (in reality nr 1 and two supplements). Each 30 x 21cm, pagination varies (c. 80pp, 18pp, 12pp respectively) plus wrappers. Nrs 1 and 2 with tape over staples, the third only stapled. The first of an annual art and agit-prop resource for artists who were also activists. During the early 70s the Art Lab Movement encouraged a new radical co-ordination and co-operation between art workers and one of the most important aspects of this was the sharing of contacts and information. These three documents are a veritable who is who of the artistic left in Britain at that time. A quite astonishing encyclopaedic bit of research by Tilson – names, addresses, contact numbers and short descriptions of the groups and individuals organised by various categories. An exceptional resource for anyone investigating the left artistic groupings of the early 70s including street theatre, film makers, lecturers, student unions and other forms of agit-prop. Minor tear (no paper lose) to tape over the spine binding in Nr 1, a few grubby marks to front cover of nr 3 – else VG+.
