N.p.: United Artists Against Apartheid, n.d. (1983)
85 x 6cm black and red offset lithograph on velin d’ Arches. This was Vostell’s contribution to this anti-apartheid portfolio and fundraising alternative to the (much publicised and condemned) selfish actions of some rock bands (eg The Police) who played apartheid Sun City for large sums of money and ignored the United Nationa embargo on cultural exchange with the racist regime. The image of a two native Africans in traditional dress has one of them obscured by a rough ‘white’ painting out and the title text: ‘everyman is a work of art’ written over the space where the human had previously been depicted. This is one of an unstated number of unsigned copies (Hors Commerce) aside from the signed 100 copies. Fine estate. In wood and glass frame but the print has slipped within it – thankfully without any damage to the work – hence we will probably remove it from the frame to ship.
