HOMEMADE PLAYING CARD USED BY GRETZINGER TO UPDATE JERRY’S MAP. 2020. UNIQUE.

£75.00

Maple City: s.p. (Jerry Gretzinger), 2012
8.55 x 5.7cm, inkjet and paint on thin card with collage elements. A homemade playing card that Gretzinger used to make decisions on how to modify (evolve) his huge fictitious map of a non-existent continent. The map (created from individual panels) which was began in 1963 is regularly updated with new panels replacing others much like a real landscape might evolve over time. To decide which panels are updated and how, Gretzinger uses a pack of cards that are modified to give instructions as to what should happen in each panel. This is one such card – the instruction being “COPY/PAINT AS PREV”. Unique. VG+.
