INVITATION CARD FOR FIRST UK EXHIBITION OF GROUPE ESPACE. 1952.

£65.00

London: Royal Festival Hall, 1952

10 x 15cm folded card, (opens to 10 x 25cm) private view invitation to the first exhibition in the UK of the neo Constructivist Groupe Espace of whom most prominent of their number were Arp, Sonia Delaunay and Walter Gropius and, in the UK, Paule Vezelay who formed the British Section in the late 40s (after meeting Arp and Sauphie Tauber-Arp in 1934 in the ‘Abstraction – Creation’ group). The group became influential in architecture later creating some large scale projects throughout Europe. This card is not only an attractive pink and black but has a lengthy (for a card) extract from a speech by Gropius discussing the role of space in architecture and culture. Fine.
