Antwerpen: Wide White Space, 1972
12 x 10cm, 4pp. The invitation leaflet for the second showing of the titular work at the famous WWS gallery. The title film by Broodthaers was continuously shown on an especially created screen: the idea was to expand cinema away from a linear, given experience (and can be compared with Debord’s similar experiments under the Letteriste banner). The cover of this card – front and back – is of two Broodthaer’srather amateurish drawings printed red on white. Internally there is a short text. Quite a rare item and all the more important as part of the documentation that came out of the Wide White Space Gallery which was run by the (entirely delightful and lovely) Anne de Dekker. A short anecdote – when we visited Anne a decade ago she gave coffee in her lounge which contained a glass cabinet full of egg works by Broodthaers on display much like a Scottish granny might have fine china plates. The eggs were starting to deteriorate. On asking Anne indicated that she didn’t mind the eggs breaking and the works becoming unrecognisable – “they should return to nature” she stated deadpan. Fine condition.
