UNTITLED (POEM). 1972. NOT IN ROTH CATALOGUE RAISONNE

Welwyn Garden: ICI, 1972

25 x 25cm 4pp paper folder content of a 25 x 25cm white glossy card with foil blocking in red, yellow, orange, gold, green, light blue and dark blue. This work was a commercially commissioned work from Roth which was printed as part of a series of designs for ICI plastics in 1972 in order to promote their Melinex range of foils. The work itself is a typographic / concrete design based on a poem (Reflections) by C. Day-Lewis. Roth has reprinted the poem in its totality but in a ordered, equally spaced, rectangular block utilising a simple sans serif font. Each letter is in a different colour and Roth has deliberately removed some of the letters from the text and left unprinted white space. On the reverse of the print there is a b/w small self portrait by Roth and a biographical text and publicity for the foils and ICA. No limitation stated but this is not in the Roth Graphics catalogue raisonne and may be assumed to be very scarce. Fine in like folder. This is a surprisingly lovely text work by the master printer.
