NYC: s.p. (Leibowitz), 1992
20 x 20 x 12cm found jewish skull cap in cotton and braid with added metal trinkets (here a number of peace symbols). An early work by Leibowitz where he found a commercially produced cap and stitched onto the pinnacle another found item – an earring which has 6 small peace symbols in metal on a clasp. The scull cap has the name “House of Leibowitz” printed on the inside by the original manufacturers – something that must have garnered the artist’s attention. Leibowitz informed us that he made a few dozen of these works but each was unique in the choice of trinket stitched onto the hat. Fine condition. Signed in ink and dated 1992 by Candyass (Leibowitz) on the inside of the hat.
