21.5 x 14.5cm. Watercolour on paper. A unique and extremely early work on paper by the influential Surrealist artist and author executed while still in her teen’s, the work offered here represents one of Carrington’s earliest (extant) stylistic investigations.
Only two years later, in 1937, Carrington joined the Surrealist group. Within this milieu, her well-documented and tumultuous romantic and decisive creative collaborations with Max Ernst were founded.
This is a notable work, given that the piece offered here was initially possessed by Max Ernst, and thus could (possibly) be considered as a gestural gift. In any speculative event, such an early work by Carrington is a rare and wonderful documentary find. Signed by Carrington. Fine estate. Full provenance upon request.
