Kippenberger had encouraged a student from the Frankfurt Städelschule to carry out a 5,000 Km trip in Africa where he would have to cover a certain distance each day in order to collect things that he would send back in the post. These objects were then included in the exhibition The William Holden Company. The text by Der Kipp is an amusing retelling of the trip.
Martin Kippenberger created the William Holden Company in 1991, being fascinated by the actor William Holden and believing himself to be his doppelgänger. This book was released on the ocassion of the exhibition of the same name and the design is a parody of the “Reclam Unversalbibliotek”.
