14.5 x 21cm, 4pp gatefold card. Announcement for a solo show of early works (drawings and sculptures) by Beuys from the period 1947 to 1957. A text on Beuys by Per Kirkeby is found on the back of the card. Slight brown marks (nascent foxing perhaps) on the front of the card else VG+.

20.5 x 15.5cm, 2pp announcement card for a performance on 20 March 1967 (with Henning Christiansen)of Hauptstrom where the latter played a violin painted green and an exhibition of works by Beuys. The front of the card show the artist during his explaining art to a dead hare aktion of 1965 - but interestingly in a purple and yellow mirrored duotone. A scarce early card. VG+.

21 x 15cm, 4pp (single folded sheet printed recto only) - the exhibition announcement and handout for a group show at the conceptual art gallery - here with listed works by Beuys ("Objekt Joyce" from 1961 and a sculpture "Doppelspaten" from 1965) and others by Fontana, Vasarely, Appel, Tapies, Broodthaers ("Plat a moules" from 1965), Gaul, Van Severen, Manzoni, Panamarenko, Henneman, Heyrman and Palermo. Berlin: Edition 2 Rene Block Galerie, 1966 11 x 10.5cm. 1pp black on brown card. Announcement for an edition and exhibition at the famous gallery. The edition consisted of a canvas covered box with a signed drawing with 2 brown crosses, 1 divided felt cross, and two printed 2 texts (interestingly one one box contained a gas mask instead of a drawing). VG+ - although a mailed example with handwritten address stamp and franking. Scarce....

Dusseldorf: Galerie Schmela, 1965
15 x 21cm, 4pp announcement card with a b/w image of Beuys pretending to be asleep on a lump of fat. This was the artist's first exhibition/performance in a private gallery and where he explained art to a "dead hare" by showing all of the 38 works (all listed here) to the corpse while miming the dead animal's movements. This is a VG+ example of a scarce early invite card.

Berlin: Galerie Rene Block, 1964 15 x 11cm, typographic design announcement card silkscreen printed white on brown card for the preview of a Beuys performance - it is not clear what this performance consisted of as this proceeds his action Der Chef. Very rare early card. ...

Kranenburg: Hause Van der Grinten, 1963 20.9 x 10.6cm, 4pp. Printed only on the inside with exterior of card blank. Beuy's first ever exhibition invitation with a b/w reproduction of a linocut from 1959 and details of the Van der Grinten collection of Beuys works that were being exhibited in the family's house. The image is a drawing of a piece of ‘chain’ which was a symbolic part of the Büderich War Memorial in Büderich although Beuys typically has added symbols from magnets. It is interesting that some of the artist's formal symbolism and hermetic imagery is already present in this image. Additionally Beuys was still spelling his name as ‘Josef’ at this time (possibly after his father Josef Jakob Beuys). An extremely rare early announcement card in near mint condition. JOINT: As issued - 20.9 x 10.6cm, 1pp insert with details of the signed print issued by the Hause Van der Grinten in 500 examples. Typograsphic only....
