Paris, Gallimard, 1930
15.5 x 12cm, 64pp. Original wrappers with tipped on duotone illustration. The third edition (according to the cover) of this monograph (but given Gallimard’s habit of hinting at popularity of a title by printing a false edition number on books it is possible that this is the first edition) considering the surrealist’s early work with 48 b/w full page reproductions of paintings and lithographs to be found amidst the essay by the author. The first monograph published in French (or elsewhere) considering Masson’s work. As a (tangential) aside the publisher Gallimard later died in a car crash along with Albert Camus. A very good copy.
