NYC: Search & Destroy, 1977 – 1979
Uniformly 49 x 25cm, folded as issued. Tabloid newsprint. First edition (the complete collection was later reprinted in paperback). A complete run of the first volume of this archetypal US punk magazine plus a single number from the later second volume. A flagship of the US variant of the punk movement – which was always a little more arty and a little more middle class than the more “authentic” UK equivalent the focus is mostly on music but throughout there are articles on anarchism and considered interviews with the likes of William Burroughs and JG Ballard. The magazines were very reliant on a fantastic use of photographs and the influence of anarchism on the fashion and symbolism of punk is clear here with even a cursory look Apart from nr 8 which has significant browning throughout these are all very good to very good copies although one has an old price sticker on it and a few have some minor browning (due to the newsprint) and edge wear / dog-ears near corners because of the cheap paper employed and the ephemeral nature of these zines. Scarce especially as a long run.
