57 DIFFERENT ZINES IN ARTIST HAND-MADE WALL MOUNTED BOX. 2010 – 2014. SOME ZINES WITH ORIGINAL PHOTOGRAPHS.

26 x 18 x 16.5cm, wooden nailed box intended to be wall mounted – hand made by Pat McCarthy to hold collections of his zine publication – of which here are 57 different publications from some of the artist’s very earliest to later series. The earliest zines are approx 14 x 10.7cm and have various paginations (typical is 8pp to 16pp) apart from one (Born to Kill en Doctor Jesus, 2011) which is 11 x 7cm, 8pp. The later copies are mostly 22 x 14cm and pagination is from 8pp to 48pp. Most are stapled and all are produced on a xerox machine and crudely produced.

There are a number of series here – Pigeon Club, which follows McCarthy’s interest in breeding and racing pigeons in the lofts of New York, Skirts – which are pornographic in content with explicit photographs of mostly female volunteers along with the artists own erotic writings, and Born to Kill. All show b/w images and facsimile texts of the artist’\s handwriting and some collage elements. Some magazines have original colour photographs tipped onto them (mostly the Skirts zines).

Early copies of these zines from 2010 and 2011 are now very hard to find even though some of the zines were reprinted by McCarthy as they sold out.

All are in VG+ condition. The box and magazines were purchased originally from the artist at a European art fair.
