Paris: Balland,, 1977
22 x 14cm. 284pp. plus wrappers. First edition. Isou’s first and only novel (which is primarily autobiographical) where the inheritance of a castle initiates the novel’s hero into a different utopian world (based on Lettriste principles and starring thinly disguised characters representing Lemaitre, Pomerand, etc.). One of a small number of books written by Isou primarily to raise funds to allow him to eat as well as to gain, he hoped, the Prix Goncourt – that being said the author gave no ground on his personal views. And unsurprisingly failed to win the prize. Very good.
