25.5 x 13cm, b/w vintage press photograph printed in 1968. The image (17.5 x 12cm) is a portrait of the Black Panther leader released on the day that he was found guilty (during the first of three trials) of voluntary manslaughter of the white policeman John Frey during a gun fight. The image actually was taken on Sept 6 1968 before the verdict was announced. This was the first of three different trial Newton faced on the charges. This wire photograph has a date stamp on the back: “Sept 1 1968”. VG+ condition. Provenance: part of a group of press photographs decommission from the Seattle Times Library.
