Goslar: Uecker, 1983
24 x 17cm, 1pp. A leaflet describing one of Uecker’s public art events and is a manifesto of sorts. The text in translation (forgive our poor German skills) reads:
“There is a point where two lines meet, I determine the point, and I drive a nail there. The shadow of the nail represents a new line – the movement of the shadow becomes the perception of time. The direction of the nail in this world and the articulation of light and shadow are extensions of dimensions. You will look around – because one direction has made us blind.
The anti-images give an example here. My concept of structure is to be understood in the dimensionlessness in which the individual element is lost in knowledge. The removal of the directional orientation of the world, the perspective of progress, was very important to me. I nailed up this world of illusions and pointed out the diversity in our possibilities of perception. Now the viewer is released from the art, its appearances are material, the content is the dialogue of parting.
Uecker”
