Paris: Surrealist group, 1959
27 x 21cm, 1pp black on light blue. Surrealist tract defending Andre Breton from (anonymous) attack within the pages of a revue “La Tour de Feu”which had published a special issue on Artaud.
The title of the tract – “Le Coup de Jarnac” refers to a crippling blow to the back of the opponent’s exposed knee or calve as a sneaky mode of attack first utilised by a monsieur Jarnac during duelling.
Signed in print by over 30 surrealists including Lebel, Mayoux and Silva amongst others (but not Breton for obvious reasons). Formerly folded into four and minor fading along those mild creases but a lesser-known public statement from the Surrealist Group.
