Dusseldorf: S.p. (Schneider), 2014
Two different, 49 x 73cm c-prints in glass, white wood frame and passportout (74 x 102cm approx.). The photographic documentation by Schneider of his significant installation in Edinburgh during the 2013 International Festival. Attendees were allowed into a subterranean series of corridors and one very white room then, unexpectedly, a final dark metal room resembling a shipping container where eleven naked and non-communicative black men were encountered – causing a variety of reactions ranging from fear to laughter from the participant.
The installation became viral after a major BBC report on the work was posted on the internet. The images utilised in this edition by Schneider are the main empty “white room” where every surface was high gloss and the “black room” where the black actors were all naked and have their backs to the camera.
