Edinburgh: Polygon Pocketbooks, 2002

Paris: Point d'ironie/Agnes b, 2002
43.4 x 30.7cm, 8pp, A single number of the artist's periodical which invites a single artist to create an artist's book. This is one of two such publications by Boltanski in the series - he also did number 50 8 years later. The pages of the tabloid do not register other than a general shape when looked at in isolation but when one opens up the pages and conjoins the sheets one can see an appropriated vintage b/w photograph of an unidentified man and a woman. Folded for storage else VG+. Somewhat scarce despite the large edition size of 10,000 copies.

Frankfurt: Revolver, 2002
20.5 x 15.5cm, unpagainated (80pp) plus wrappers and printed semi-opaque dust-wrapper which is printed on both sides (so that some text is read through the paper). Monk's artist book displays the gaps between the blocks on the Sunset Strip - thus "filling in" the bits of the street that were not reproduced in Ed Ruscha's famous original photo-book. One of 500 published but this is a hard to find publication. Some minor wear to the dustjacket and the odd small strain but else VG+.

Little Sparta: Wild Hawthorn Press, 2002
183 x 122cm, two colour embroidery on a wool/cashmere blanket with backing material.
The original version of THE DIVIDED MEADOWS OF APHRODITE was originally conceived in 1975 and published as a print.
Aphrodite was famously a chaste virgin who when spied upon took extreme revenge. Here Aphrodite is shown as an aircraft carrier and the "divided meadows" which is a reference to her labia is the runway from which war planes can be launched against an enemy.
Only 20 examples of this large blanket were made. An artwork to keep you intellectually warm.

Little Sparta: Wild Hawthorn Press, 2002 183 x 122cm, two colour embroidery on a wool/cashmere blanket with backing material. The original version of SAILS/WAVES was originally conceived in 1970 and published as an artist's card. There was an earlier design variant of the same work but essentially the equivalence of the shape of sails being blown in the wind with the shape of waves is the point here. One is reminded in some ways of Wittgenstein's Rabbit/Duck visual pun.
Only 20 examples of this large blanket were made. An artwork to keep you intellectually warm.
